The Barcelona International Art Fair, branded as Barcelona Showcase, was inaugurated on December 10th, 2011. The art fair welcomed international emerging and established artists to showcase their art in Barcelona for the first time.

The concept of the international art fair was to gather artistic talent under an artistic atmosphere. The venue of this event was none other than Gaudi’s masterpiece: Casa Batlló. This year, we will celebrate the 10th anniversary of the event.

On December 3-4th, 2021, the sixth edition of the Barcelona International Art Fair (FIABCN) will be celebrated. Organised by the ICM Gestora Cultural, this special edition will feature international exhibitors and the PIAB (Premi Internacional d’Art de Barcelona) award ceremony.

The Barcelona International Art Fair was founded by Natal Vallvé (b. Barcelona). Vallvé, deeply influenced by Gaudi’s remarkable designs including Casa Batlló and La Sagrada Familia, sought out to fuse contemporary art within an artistic masterpiece. Thus, on December 10th, 2011, the first edition of the International Art Fair was held at Casa Batlló, the architectural jewel of Gaudi.

This event was a huge success when over 11,500 visitors joined 110 exhibitors from more than 40 countries. The inspiration behind this event was none other than the forefront of Spain’s Modernism movement, Antoni Gaudí. Gaudí pioneered a newer, liberated style of art using color, texture, and movement in unusual ways. He also inspired the modernist techniques in the treatment of materials such as ‘trencadis’.

It is this technique that has inspired the logo of this year’s convention. Gaudi’s works were inspired by his own passions of nature, architecture, and religion. Gaudi’s finished and unfinished works stand as a testimony to his genius and have inspired this new movement.

Followed by the success of the first edition of the International Art Affair, two more celebrated editions took place in 2011, and 2012. After that, Natal Vallvé decided to globalize this concept. Thus, he co-founded the Global Art Agency (GAA) Ltd. in 2012. GAA organised events based on the same concepts across the globe including Amsterdam (De Oude Kerk, Beurs van Berlage), Vienna (Palais Shonborn), Oxford (Oxford Town Hall), Dubai (Burj Khalifa), Rotterdam (De Laurenskerk), Tokyo (Omotesando Hills, Roppongi), Miami and Shanghai.

The third edition of the Barcelona Showcase took place in 2013, with more than 140 international exhibitors. In the fourth edition in 2014, the art fair was renamed “BCN ART”.

As the events progressed, so did the number of visitors. Therefore, in 2016, the art fair (BIAF) moved its location to Museu Maritim de Barcelona. The ideal location of the building, fused with its Gothic style made the perfect space for visitors and exhibitors to showcase their art.

Natal Vallvé founded the ICM Gestora Cultural in 2018. It is a composition of numerous art companies, foundations, and enterprises fully engaged in international cultural management. The 6th edition, celebrating the 10th Anniversary of the 1st edition will be organised by the ICM Gestora Cultural, inviting exhibitors from across the world.

NEW DATES | 03-04 DEC 2021

We believe that shifting the art fair to December is the right decision given the current development of the pandemic and its impact on international travel restrictions. By taking the decision early, we aim to support our exhibitors in advance planning for their 2021 programs.

We very much look forward to hosting our show in December next year and to welcoming artists, gallerists, collectors, and art lovers back to Barcelona at that time.
