The Ancient Egyptians celebrated the Feast of the Loyalty of the Nile on the 15th of Mesori, which now is August 15. This date is the flood season (Akhet) in Ancient Egypt. The year was divided into three seasons, the first of which was the flood season (Akhet), then the germination season (peret), and finally the harvest season (Shemu). The flood began with the rise of the "Yemeni star of Canopus "Soped", a natural phenomenon that occurred only once a year, as it coincided with the arrival of flood life, which made the ancient Egyptians consider it the beginning of the year.
The ancient Egyptians made the idol of the Nile, "Haabi", who was depicted as a man with a strong body, a prominent chest and a drooping belly, a symbol of goodness, fertility and life.
The Nile was associated with several other gods. For example, it was mentioned in the Book of the Dead: "The Nile was born of Ra".
When the Nile level rises, the ancient Egyptians held celebrations by playing musical instruments and singing hymns, offering some sacrifices to the god "Haabi", for example, an animal or bird, and throwing a papyrus with a list of sacrifices and prayers recorded on it until the flood came again.
The Imhotep Museum is pleased to publish an ivory fish, in light of this accasion. this ivory fish discovered in Aperia tomb at Saqqara, in the shape of a tilapia fish, due to the fish's connection in ancient Egyptian belief to the idea of fertility and resurrection. It was used to contain cosmetics, as on the other side, it is shaped concave, so that some perfumes can be placed to it.
