Architecture becomes abstraction.
The architecture of museums and cultural landmarks is a recurring source of inspiration for Patrik Grijalvo’s three-dimensional photographic collages. Rather than simply documenting a building, the artist deconstructs its architectural language and transforms figurative photography into abstract, sculptural compositions.
For this work, Grijalvo turns to the iconic Pavillon Le Corbusier in Zurich — the architect’s final realized building and a striking synthesis of art, architecture and colour.
In his three-dimensional collage, Grijalvo deconstructs the Pavilion’s distinctive forms, vivid colours and façade elements, reassembling them into a new spatial composition. Perspectives shift, surfaces project outward and overlap, and photography becomes sculptural architecture.
