Toni Sadurní, partner and director of Mexico’s City space, talks to us about artists practice and the exhibition process.

The exhibition in Mexico City takes part as a major celebration that brings together historical pieces and newly commissioned works by by Iñaki Bonillas, José Eduardo Barajas, Elena Damiani, Naufus Ramírez-Figueroa and Jerónimo Rüedi, functioning as both an exhibition and a living archive, it traces the history of the gallery and its founder, Claes Nordenhake, from its inception in Malmö, in 1976, to the present day. Rather than following a chronological framework, the exhibition centers on the artists, their work and interwoven relationships cultivated by the gallery over 5 decades.

In this video, Director and partner Toni Sadurní explores ektor garcia’s exhibition En la boca del lobo at Galerie Nordenhake Mexico City. Toni discusses how the artist’s residency in Tzintzuntzan, Michoacán, informs a body of work that revisits long-standing processes—such as constructing textiles from punctured bicycle inner tubes—alongside new explorations in carved cantera stone, pine, and intricate crochet weavings of copper wire and natural wool.

The exhibition centers on the human hand as a primordial tool for transmuting matter. Learned alongside local artisans, hands carved in eucalyptus or woven in popotillo, palm, and chuspata do more than reference the body; they reclaim the identity of artisanal labor. By using these traditional materials, garcia honors the craftsmanship of the region while elevating the act of manual creation.

Defined by the juxtaposition of the seemingly irreconcilable—metal and ceramics, industrial rubber and delicate fibers—garcia’s practice operates between extremes. En la boca del lobo functions as a series of thresholds between the interior and the exterior, taking its title from the colloquial warning about entering a place of imminent danger.
