„Na Bravo!“ ist die erste Arbeit aus Jan Kucks Serie „I am the artist who are you!“ In dieser Serie nimmt Jan Kuck bemerkenswerte Aussagen berühmter Personen und lässt diese Personen ihren jeweiligen Satz in ihrer Handschrift schreiben.
Die erste Arbeit referiert auf eine typische Aussage des international bekannten Altmeisterkunsthändlers Konrad O. Bernheimer.
„Na Bravo!“ wird von Konrad O. Bernheimer immer nur dann geäußert, wenn ihm etwas wirklich gut gefällt. Zugleich wird diese Aussage insbesondere in Bayern und in Österreich oft in ironischer Weise getätigt, wenn man ein großes Schlamassel be- schreiben möchte.

In Bayern finden sich zahlreiche glanzvolle Bauten der architektonischen Moderne. Überall im Land entstanden in den 1920er und 1930er Jahren eindrucksvolle Wohnsiedlungen, Postbauten, Kirchen und andere Gebäude im neuen Stil. Mit dem Begriff Bauhaus ist zu einen die 1919 von Walter Gropius in Weimar gegründete Kunstschule gemeint, zum anderen die stilistische Einordnung von Architektur als „Bauhaus-Architektur.

We launched the website www.neveragainisnow.world to send a global message from Germany against anti-Semitism, against the justification of violence and in favour of humanity.
Our statement
It seems that it is now socially tolerated and accepted to speak out against Jews. Above all, Israel’s current policy is equated with Judaism and this is used to justify the demand for the destruction of Israel and a worldwide fight against the Jews. But what kind of dangerous and misguided idea is this development based on? After all, anti-Semitism is ultimately nothing more than a particularly stupid form of racism based on the crudest conspiracy theories.
But didn’t we always speak out loud, why didn’t our parents and grandparents do anything about it back then? Why did so many people do nothing about it? Were they all conscious perpetrators or did they “just” let it happen and went along with it? Did they do it out of fear? Or out of cowardice?
Being able to feel fear is important. Because fear makes us more cautious and more attentive. At least if the reason for the fear can be specified. However, if it is an unreflected fear of fear, the cause of which we do not observe, then fear quickly turns into cowardice. Above all, cowardice only reinforces fear and triggers a spiral of paranoia. And it is precisely this paranoia that we are unfortunately seeing again all over the world.
But we cannot allow history to repeat itself! This past may never again become our future!
Not only because of our historical responsibility, but above all for contemporary reasons of humanity. Anti-Semitism offends not only people of the Jewish faith. Anti-Semitism insults every human being and their intelligence.
That’s why we should...

NEVER AGAIN ...IS NOW
The neon work NEVER AGAIN by Jan Kuck is to be understood as a clear sign and declaration in favour of our Jewish fellow citizens and against the anti-Semitism that is currently flaring up worldwide.
NEVER AGAIN is at the same time a warning call directed towards the future, that the destructive past, which is repeated again and again, must never again become our present.
The work was presented for the first time in January 2018 in the former city prison of Genoa in the Palazzo Ducale for the 10th edition of SEGRETE. Tracce di Memoria Artisti alleati in memoria della Shoah.
In November 2023, the work then hung prominently on the balcony of Munich City Hall and shone onto Marienplatz as a reaction to the aftermath of 7 October.
The print edition NEVER AGAIN ...IS NOW! by Jan Kuck is based on a photo of his neon installation at Munich City Hall from November 2023, on which the artist sprayed „IS NOW!“ in red paint in his own handwriting.
