Mucha was far more than a poster artist. 🐍

During his collaboration with the celebrated actress Sarah Bernhardt, he also designed jewelry, sets, and costumes. The bracelet worn by Medea here is the prototype for Mucha’s iconic Snake Bracelet, which Bernhardt commissioned from the jeweller Georges Fouquet.

Mucha byl více než jen plakátovým umělcem. 🐍

This poster advertised the first of Mucha’s exhibitions of the Slav Epic cycle, held at the Trade Fair Palace in Prague in autumn 1928 to coincide with Czechoslovakia’s tenth anniversary, followed by a second showing in Brno in 1930.

The artist’s daughter, Jaroslava, modeled for the poster, adopting a pose drawn from one of the Slav Epic canvases: The Oath of Omladina under the Slavic Linden Tree.

The mythical figure in the background is Svantovit, the pagan Slavic god of destiny, whose four faces were said to watch over the universe in every direction. He is shown bearing two of his emblems, the sword and the drinking horn.

July's primal birthstone is the ruby.

Alphonse Mucha immortalized this gemstone in his celebrated 1900 series, The Precious Stones. In his depiction of Ruby, the figure adopts an alluring pose, her gaze directed downward toward the viewer as she delicately touches her ornate ruby necklace. Bold red blossoms fill the lower half of the composition, while intricate decorative motifs frame the upper background. The piece is unified by a dominant red palette — a timeless symbol of love and passion.

Alphonse Mucha’s poster for the ‘8th Sokol Festival Prague 1926’ was more than an advertisement for a sporting event.

It served, above all, as a visual invitation to the spectacular “Ceremonial Play on the Vltava River — Brotherhood of the Slavs,” a production that united art, theater, music, and aquatic scenography with Mucha’s broader vision of Slavic solidarity. Mucha created the poster while working on his late masterpiece, the Slav Epic.

This year, Sokol marks the 100th anniversary of the event, which took place in Prague from June 28 to July 6, 1926, at the newly built Strahov Stadium.

června do 6. července 1926 na tehdy nově vybudovaném Strahovském stadionu.

Happy July!

We welcome the new month with Alphonse Mucha's evocative portrayal of July, drawn from his celebrated medallion series, The Months (1899). The figure of "Juillet" — French for July — depicts a dark-haired woman seated amid a blossoming field. Adorned in a flowing red gown, she holds a delicate stem in between her lips while her hands rest softly against her cheeks. The composition is dominated by shades of pale yellow, red, green, and blue.

Summer and a great book go hand in hand. 📖

Alphonse Mucha designed this striking cover for The West End Review, a British literary magazine published from 1897 to 1899. It features a woman in red, an open book resting in her lap, and a pen in her hand, surrounded by two cherubs. The whole scene is set against a backdrop of rich, flowing foliage.

We'd love to know — what's your favorite beach read?

What better way to conclude a summer's evening than with a glass of champagne in hand? 🥂

This is Alphonse Mucha's poster for Moët & Chandon: Dry Imperial (1899). To evoke the refined character of Moët's dry champagne, Mucha chose to depict a dark-haired woman of classical beauty, adorned in a high-necked gown and ornate jewellery.

Mucha maintained an extensive creative partnership with Moët & Chandon, producing a range of posters, catalogues, postcards, and other promotional materials. This particular design was issued in several variants.
