The project, organized by Art Alliance under the auspices of the Macau Special Administrative Region Government Cultural Development Fund, is curated by Luca Ceresoli, Angelica Gatto, Carlo Maria Rossi.

Lei Ka Ieng’s digital artwork “Macau Lotus” focuses on the lotus flower as a symbol of Macau. The artist uses the gaming revenue figures of Macau for the past 22 years (from the end of 1999 to 2021) as data and constructs a lotus flower by computer program. And through the artwork “City #04”, the artist depicts the night scene of the city connected with water. The city buildings in this work are constantly built and disappear under the influence of electrocardiogram sound, which also represents human activities.

Shanghai artist Chengcheng Shi｜上海艺术家时橙橙

Chengcheng Shi’s New Language is a computer-generated video work that, as the artist describes, explores “the body as a translator of some of our representational consciousness. In a future world where consciousness does not need to be transmitted through the medium of the body, the physical existence of the body becomes meaningless, our bodies may be broken and abstract, and consciousness may be realized through the refraction of light and the feedback of colours”.

Macau artist Alice Kok｜澳门艺术家
Middle: “Macao Negative” ｜《澳門陰記》
Bottom: "Shanghai Positive"｜《上海阳记》

Alice Kok was infected with the Coronavirus during the exchange trip to Shanghai last December and experienced a three-day illness in the hotel. Later, after returning to Macau with the illness, she finally changed from being “positive” to “negative” and composed two poems based in this trip. The artist, who did not know Wu (Shanghai dialect), used the Shanghai Dialect Dictionary to write the first poem “Shanghai Positive”, which she did not even know how to pronounce, and then used her native dialect, Cantonese, to write “Macao Negative” with ease.The two poems were printed on large banners with yellow letters on a red background and hung inside and outside the Zhujiajiao No Name Studio in Shanghai. These two seemingly eccentric poems are the artist’s humorous response to the two cities of “1+1”. The two dialects, which are diametrically opposed to each other, are linked together by COVID in a playful way.

Shanghai artist Wen Guang｜上海艺术家文广

Wen Guang’s work “Mountain Rock” depicts a computerized 3D-imaged mountain and rock landscape through oil and acrylic. This virtual scene painted by human hands highlights the imaginative space of AI’s VR, AR and metaverse. But conversely, the artist’s works seem to explore the connection between human beings and artificial intelligence, going beyond the functional “consequentialism” and returning to the self, searching for the creative desire that belongs to human origin.

Macau artist Lei Hio Lam｜澳门艺术家李晓琳

Lei Hio Lam’s video work “Seeing Blue” depicts her emotions towards her mother. Her experimental style video consists of her own narration of her mother’s story in Macau in Cantonese, bringing the city by the sea (Macau) to another city by the sea (Shanghai) through the video, telling her inner feelings and sorrow for her mother. In the exhibition, Lei arrived in Shanghai a week before the opening and painted on the wall of the gallery. The mural “One of the Questions” is nostalgic in style, resembling the movie posters of the 1960s and 1970s. The language of the message appears to be simple, but it carries a deep subconscious irony.

In 2023, .name.studio.shanghai cooperate with the Austrian Embassy in China, Vienna Tourist Board, , and SinoTan Art Ventures, jointly launch the first Vienna International Art Competition (VIAC).

⚠️Since the open call of Vienna International Art Competition (VIAC) started, No Name has received a large number of outstanding artworks from art students.
