A Thousand Plateau Art Space is delighted to announce the upcoming solo exhibition of artist Zhai Liang, In Praise of the Everyday, on view from September 27 to November 30, 2025. Curated by Fiona He, the exhibition invites viewers to step into the artist’s carefully constructed “sites where life happens” and explore his latest works on canvas. We warmly welcome your visit!

Art historically, the notion of the “everyday” has long swung between the peripheral and the centre. While genre paintings and still-life from the Dutch Golden Age attribute solemnity to fragments of daily life, the modernists have turned it into a source of exploration. In the contemporary context, the quotidian becomes as much a mode of representation as a way of generating concepts. Zhai Liang’s exhibition Praise of the Everyday unfolds in this context: through the medium of painting, the artist interweaves personal experience, fictional narratives, allegorical imagery, and art-historical traditions, adding new dimensions to the everyday.

Macao International Art Biennale 2025: Bi Rongrong’s most recent installation, “Entwined Branches and Acanthus,” is presently on display in the “Main Exhibition” sector of the Macao Museum of Art at Art Macao 2025.

“Entwined Branches and Acanthus” draws inspiration from Xiaoshan lace from Hangzhou. The title itself metaphorically represents Chinese and Western decorative motifs interwoven in this unique craft.

Xiaoshan lace, introduced to China by European missionaries in the early 20th century, blends Venetian lacemaking techniques with Chinese drawn thread work traditions. Unlike traditional Chinese embroidery, Xiaoshan lace employs a combination of embroidery and drawn thread work, characterized by its intricate openwork designs.

Within these negative spaces, patterns intertwine, subtly connecting Chinese and European decorative motifs. This artwork reflects the artist’s initial impressions of Macao.

Like the interlacing threads of the lace, she weaves together elements of the city - the hues of its architecture, the patterned facades, ancient trees entwined with vines, and the floral scrolls welded onto iron gates - creating a tapestry that reveals both city’s history and its present state.

: Wang Jun views “sketching” in the Guizhou Province woods as an experience that necessitates returning the body to a certain location, a sort of transient physical projection there. The potential that this influence inspires is all-encompassing. Local history, field, personal memory and emotion, art ontology, walking and mobility, and multi-dimensional writing are beginning to be actively emphasized and invited by artists.

Showing at .social.club now until 21 June Saturday. Welcome to visit us and experience Rao Weiyi’s work in person.

饶维懿 Rao Weiyi
流逝之声 Elapse
布面丙烯 Acrylic on canvas
50 × 40 cm
2025

As a young painter gradually gaining recognition for his distinctive sensibility, Rao has developed a subtle yet compelling visual language that diverges from conventional figuration. His compositions are restrained yet psychologically charged, often unfolding in quiet, introspective registers. With finely modulated brushwork and a muted, deep color palette, his paintings carry a solemn stillness, creating scenes suspended between familiarity and detachment—more like inner monologues than narrative statements.
Created specifically for Basel Social Club 2025, this new series of five acrylic-on-canvas works responds to the fair’s 2025 curatorial theme centered on value, exchange, and systemic structures. Rao continues his long-standing inquiry into the ambiguity of images and the instability of perception. Rendered in vibrant yet dissonant tones, the paintings suggest fragments of memory, displaced symbols, or visual déjà vu—each image recognizable yet elusive.

Meaning in Rao’s work does not arrive all at once; it lingers, disperses, and refracts across the surface. In that delay, we glimpse how images are continuously reinterpreted, exchanged, and reassigned value—through both cultural narratives and the mediated systems that shape visual communication.

We are thrilled to participate in the 4th edition of .social.club , taking place from June 15 to 21, 2025, in a historic former private bank building in the old town of Grossbasel, Basel. This year’s theme, systems of value exchange, continues its commitment to site-specific curatorial practice, responding to the architectural and symbolic legacy of the bank. Over a hundred rooms will be transformed into immersive environments, where contemporary art meets the layered narratives of the site. As part of the main exhibition, A Thousand Plateaus Art Space will present new works by emerging Chinese artist Rao Weiyi (b.1993), and the artist Chen Qiulin’s video work The Garden (2007) will also be screened in the FILM section curated by Martha Kirszenbaum

Wang Jun‘s solo exhibition OFF THE BEATEN TRACK is on view. Please come to visit us!

Here’s a complete series of the works. A Thousand Plateaus Art Space is pleased to present artist Wang Jun‘s solo exhibition Off the Beaten Track from Jun 7 to Aug 10, 2025. We look forward to your visit!

“No matter how you look at it, talking about Off the Beaten Track has to start with Three Days, Three Nights - specifically the third iteration of the project that takes place in late 2019 in the D**g village of Huanggang in Liping County, Southeast Guizhou. It was in the project practice of using the public space of the ethnic minority villages as a specific field that the artist re-recognized the potential of “Sketching & Place“.“Sketching” is an encounter that requires the return of the body to a specific site, a kind of physical projection on the site. The potential that this influence inspires is all-encompassing. Local history, field, personal memory and emotion, art ontology, walking and mobility, and multi-dimensional writing are beginning to be actively emphasized and invited by artists.”
