I wonder if would consider edible literature? Not that my writing could ever be classed as literature, and this is as delectable as publishing could ever be. This Chocolate ganache cake is in the shape of three publicationsI for my sixtieth birthday. Something sweet to share with you folks…. Look how cleverly made it is. My thanks to and for your kindness.

A lovely thing happened. The Reverend Max Bayliss, vicar at Chelsea Old Church wrote a beautiful Easter message for the church magazine, and very kindly allowed the use of my drawing on the introductory page! Design by Dr. Sarah Ingham.

After a nice breakfast of dippy eggs and toast soldiers, Waisiki reminded me about the plates we were eating from. Not many people know this but in the last dim , distant days of the twentieth century I designed a set of chinaware for the venerable Australian Fine China Company. The company no longer exists in quite the same format as in the old days, but I have lovely memories working with my mum and dad, and the Aussie Gent, David Stanton on this breakfast set. Here is the enchanted fireplace from our Gnome King fantasy. You can see Fusster the hobgoblin just peeking around the side… these are Pictish Runes with cryptic sayings on the mantel, but the numerals on the clock are ancient Fae script, gathered in the Oakenwoods on the shyest midnight moon, and it was very brave of me to go out in the dark to find them. Fairy numerals bloom in tiny bunches in dark hollows. Heaven knows what else lurks there.

Ooooooh, the rites of spring! I give you Master Mole and Mr. Ratty (my hero). Complete with background furnished by William Morris. When I completed illustrations for The Wind InThe Willows 21 years ago, my darling mum sent me six hundred pounds to purchase this glorious wallpaper for my bedroom, The Willows Room!

Sometimes it’s the smallest thing which makes the biggest difference- and so it is with our Gnome King who was called into Action by the dying whisper of a single English Daisy. Of course no flower perishes on the Kings watch, but more on that another time. The point here is that the world is about to be saved and our Mother Nature shall flourish, as the Wee Folk enter our realm once more. Please stay tuned….

I am indebted to Phil Perry and Daisy Kemp for taking me on at their wonderful agency and I hope to do them justice. I love collaborating with fine folk, and of course this includes lifelong friendships such as the steadfast Waisiki Doughty and the remarkable Sikuri Murray, who each bring something unique to our life tales… Take a moment here, please, to glimpse Fusster the Hob Goblin in his natural habitat, which is the clock atop the fireplace mantel. He is a Scottish House Brownie, brave and true, and he figures quite largely in our fantasy tale THE GNOME KING.

“I can feel the damp moss under my toes, but I’m wearing shoes…” and so, sifting through a wavy sea of notes and rough jottings I’ve concluded the second chapter of my fantasy tale: The Gnome King. Now Our Three have made their way (with ingenuity and a few broad strokes of Fairy Luck) into the land of Long-shadows. They must cross the Elfstone Bridge and deal with the unknown. Will there be a troll under the bridge? Time and dreams will tell. Please stay tuned.

Greetings, Dear Ones! I will read from our new book tomorrow evening 5:30 pm, at the wonderful Banyen Books, 3608 w 4 th street, Vancouver (604)-732-7912. I do hope you can come. Fah-Nama-Nama-Nama-lah is the true tale of a little boy and baby elephant who fall in love in Sri Lanka before the war, and how they meet again by chance fifty years later. I’ll read some poems and Christmas tales, too. Hope to see you there!

Portrait of the artist as a sleeping mouse…. I very rarely show my drawings at half completion, but the soft undertones here are worth sharing. At least it’s a calm moment between the relentless postings promoting our Seymour Art Gallery exhibit, which is, incidentally, held over for an extra week .

This first photo is from our story and song night , two weeks ago at the First Impressions Theatre annexed to the Seymour Art Gallery, where my exhibition continues for the coming two weeks. Today is Canadian Thanksgiving, and I am thankful to you all, to my adoptive home, and to every dear darling I have encountered in this longish lifetime. I am blessed, and I have you all to thank for it. Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!
