A small division of PWA. Our question is: How long did it last? "Pacific Western Airlines had a helicopter division at one point in 1957. One of their first helicopters was a Bell Model 47H-1 CF-JCL leased from a company, the Uranium Corporation Ltd. in BC. Bill McLeod, an ex Okanagan employee managed the company". (information from the Helicopter Heritage Canada group).

An absolutely wonder donation and letter has been sent to us by former CP Air/Canadi>n F/A-Customer Service Director Janet Uribe (nee Wood). The donation includes a set of training audio cassettes for learning basic Mandarin; Aircrew Training videos for the 737-200/Combi, A320, 767, DC-10, and 747-400; and additional Evacuation videos. Janet also sent us her final wings from Air Canada. Janet was kind enough to also send a letter detailing the items, which she graciously have allowed us to include with this post. We will be digitizing everything, and will have the videos available on youtube once they have been converted. Thank you SO much, Janet!

We are always interested in items that pertain to our aircraft. In this case, a bevy of training books for the F-28-1000! Information like this is as important historically, as it is for long term maintenance of C-FTAV. A wonderful donation.

From 1971 to 1991, Time Air's Stewardesses / Flight Attendants wore 6 different styles of uniform, that we have been able to verify. We are fortunate to have the final Independent uniform, and a number of variations of the Time Air/Canadian Partner and Canadi>n Regional uniform. A couple questions: Would anyone know what colour the 1971 uniform was (we only have the black and white photo shown), and would anyone still possibly have any of the early uniforms? We would love to be able to eventually display as many styles as possible!

While the F-28-1000 was quite the pocket-rocket, it was not the only aircraft that used the Rolls Royce Spey engine.... some Spey's even had afterburners! Here's a look at the many other aircraft that used the popular offering from Rolls Royce... some may surprise you! Thanks to The British Airliner Collection for the information.

1966 one destination. 1991? 36 destinations! From serving Calgary, to serving British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Yukon Territory, and the States of Washington and Minnesota... our little airline grew to become one of the largest regional airlines in Canada. An amazing achievement. We're sure Stubb would have been proud!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t5_BK0Bwr1o Rare footage of our Twin Otter, CF-QHC (o/a 8Q-QHC), operating in the Maldives shortly before retirement. Thank you to Mike DeZeeum for this rare glimpse! s/n 21 - the 1967 DHC Twin Otter Demonstrator - was deemed too corroded (salt water) after its time in the Maldives. It was sold by Ken Borek Air to Rocky Mountain Aircraft after its return to Canada, and useable parts were salvaged. The aircraft sat for over a decade, before being "rediscovered" by our Society, and was donated to us at the time by RMA. Our goal is to bring the aircraft back to full static display, and CF-QHC will be painted in tribute to the rest of the Twin Otter fleet that Time Air operated (CF-DKK, CF-AKM, CF-QSC).

An incredibly rare piece of video footage, with CF-QHC operating as 8Q-QHC for Maldavian Air Taxi. A HUGE thankyou to Mike DeZeeuw who sent the footage to us...

We always are appreciative of donations, and receiving the start of an instrument panel from Rocky Mountain Aircraft was a pleasant and unexpected surprise! Our Twin Otter will slowly come back to (static display) life! With a registration of 70-ADI, the aircraft that the partial instrument panel was taken from, was last operated by Yemenia Airlines of Sana'a, Yemen. Portugal, Denmark, and Switzerland were stops along the way. It will be VERY interesting to see where other parts from other planes served in their career. The patchwork quilt of an airplane that CF-QHC will become, means that much more of an interesting history!

Last weekend's (July 29/30, 2023) Lethbridge International Airshow was a success for us, and we appreciate everyone who came out and stopped by. Over $3000 was collected, and many a supporter walked away with a scale model, donated by Trains & Such. We also have to thank Zero Gravity Cranes & Rigging Inc. for coming to our call. Although space limitations didn't allow for the wings to be placed back on CF-QHC, Zero Gravity is willing to assist us when our larger aircraft come home this fall (talk about a GREAT silver lining)! Rocky Mountain Aircraft surprised us with the start of an instrument panel, and brought along left and right quadrants for CF-QHC, complete with a partial collection of instruments. QL Aviation services is the guardian of CF-QHC, and we sincerely appreciate their continued support. To Lethbridge International Airshow - thank you for setting us up in such a great spot. We look forward to the next show, and will be back with a larger display!

A bit of cartoon fun for the Lethbridge International Airshow! Pop by, say hi, and help support bringing all of our aircraft home. "Stubby" is the official name of our DeHavilland Canada Twin Otter, and endorsed by the Ross family. We also have "Tavey" - our Fokker F-28-1000, "Conney" - our Convair CV-580, and "Shortie" - our Shorts SD3-30. Feeling a little Canadi>n (Airlines)? There's always a bit of "eh" in Canadi>n. The stickers are $5 each, or a donation. More information on the show via the link above. Let's have some fun!

What has the VFW-614 have to do with Time Air? The Vereinigte Flugtechische Werk-Fokker 614 first flight was on July 14, 1971. The German-designed aircraft was made specifically for the small airline market, complete with a unique over-wing engine mount. The engine location allowed for easier service access, and operations from unimproved (gravel or dirt) landing strips. Fokker helped VFW bring the aircraft to market. The German Government had originally ordered three F-28-5000C's as personnel transports (a cargo variant based on the -1000), one of which was assigned to s/n 11106. However, in support of VFW, the German Luftwaffe changed the order to three 614's. 11106 was then reassigned to Garuda Indonesia (PK-GVW), as part of their fleet order. 11106 was sold to Piedmont/US Air as part of their fleet renewal (N273N/N453US), and then to Time Air in 1991. Hard to believe that C-FTAV almost flew for the Luftwaffe!

A 65 year old mystery, of sorts. Last Sunday, Jesse and Rik visited the BCATP Vulcan, Alberta Base on our way back from Lethbridge. During an inpromtu tour of one of the hangars by a local owner, he showed us a marked timeline of businesses that operated out of his (privately owned) hangar. One company that showed up was CP Air (Canadian Pacific). It's obvious that CP would not have performed revenue flights out of the airport. But...what did they do in Vulcan between 1946 and 1953. Does anyone know?

We never know who we may run into! Board member Jesse was on Sunwing flight 736 (Calgary to Montego Bay) on Monday. He was sure to wear the TAHS shirt, and was pleasantly surprised when former Time Air Flight Attendant Lana Hasenfratz introduced herself, after noticing his t-shirt! Lana started her airline career with Time Air in 1988. So happy to meet you Lana Hasenfratz!

An incredibly rare artifact sent to us from England, backtracks our story to the late 1930's!
Trans-Canada Air Lines, the forerunner of Air Canada, established CYQL (Lethbridge) as the Alberta hub for their new Trans-Continental run in 1939.A mainline hangar was built at Kenyon Field, and service commenced in March. Lethbridge was chosen as the safer and more direct route to the West Coast, over the larger city of Calgary, Alberta.
Our newest artifact is in the form of an Air Mail envelope, one of the first to be sent cross-Canada on the new airline. It was postmarked in both Lethbridge and Montreal, and features a prominent Kenyon Field rubber stamp. This envelope is very rare, made even more so by its pristine condition! We thank Tania Radley of Torguay, Devon, U.K. for this remarkable addition to our collection!
Additional history of TCA/Air Canada in Lethbridge can be found within the description of our latest video.
There is much more happening during this Winter 2022-2023, which will include updates on our aircraft! Stay tuned!

"...Best Job I ever had was working for Stub Ross & Time Air. I got to drive the VW bus to pickup the pilots/copilots & flight attendents for the first flight @ 5:30 am, then drive the passengers into Lethbridge to the Hotels, deliver baggage, Delive mail to Post Office and Pick it up from there to take to airport. Only requirement was had to meet the flights"

A thank you that is LONG LONG overdue! From Gilles Breton comes this AMAZING collection that spans 30+ years from the beginning of his career to his retirement. Thank you so much Gilles, for entrusting TAHS with these beautiful artifacts! Within this collection we have CP Air, Wardair, Canadi>n, and a nod to Quebecair and Air Canada. We are honoured and humbled to be able to obtain so many incredible artifacts, with more than a few very rare pieces. Gilles Breton - we promise to be Stewarts to your generous donation, and cannot wait for the day to be able to display every piece of the collection in its entirety. Until then, everyone please enjoy the 130 pictures that showcase this important part of Canadian airline history. All gift matters, and we also appreciate the genero$ity of everyone to help build our future. Be sure to check out our F-28 link, and stay tuned for more fleet news.

https://youtu.be/LhbHjTGZ1TM Continuing on our F-28-1000 story, we pay tribute to a sistership of "TAV", which is C-GTAH. This particular aircraft was the first one purchased by Time Air, after inheriting two from the Norcanair takeover. The trio lead the way towards over 30 more being purchased. C-GTAH is still in Saskatoon, but is in poor condition when compared to TAV and others. Enjoy this tribute to TAV's older sister, which also includes a very rare video clip by Jim Hall, back in 1989.

After the acquisition of Norcanair in 1987, Time Air received two F-28-1000's with the takeover: C-GTEO and C-GTUU. The positive reception from both passenge...

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT: C-FTAV, our Fokker F-28-1000, is coming home! Get your cameras and video equipment ready for later this month! Help us document the 800 kilometer journey from CYXE - Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, back home to CYQL - Lethbridge, Alberta (note: drone coverage is not permitted on either airport grounds). We will post the route and approximate times as they become available. We are targeting September 20th and 21st as the moving dates. Prior to that (around September 16th), we have a small crew who will be doing final disassembly in Saskatoon, in preparation of ground transport. Only 241 F-28's of all series were built, during its production run. This will be the only FULLY ACCESSIBLE and complete (less only engines) F-28-1000 on display worldwide. More than ever, YOUR $upport is greatly needed and appreciated. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LWIkv3HGO4c

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0JFu1e2dTN4 It is rare to have clear video from nearly 30 years ago, but we received a short video from Robert Moody during the weekend. Robert and fellow AME Terry Johnsgaard take a look inside a stripped down F-28-1000 that had recently been purchased from US Air. The video shows work being done during a major check, which included a full strip of all paint. Rebranding to Canadi>n Regional was just around the corner. C-FCRI was purchased just over a year after C-FTAV came online.

12/08/2022

Although a slightly newer variant of the Fokker F-28, the East Coast of Canada had a special visitor earlier today (Friday, August 12)! The Columbian Air Force F-28-3000C (FAC1041) stopped in to Gander, on its way back home. Since December last year it was temporarily ‘based’ at the facilities of Fokker Techniek B.V. at Woensdrecht, Netherlands, for a major overhaul. With very few of the original F-28 series flying, this will likely be the last time a Fokker F-28 will fly over North America. That being said, it is getting very close to finally seeing our C-FTAV moved from Saskatoon to Lethbridge! We hope to have an announcement soon on the delivery weekend. Stay tuned, and if you haven't already, please support our gofundme to get TAV home!
