Souris MB Museums and History

Souris MB Museums and History This page is to celebrate the rich history of Souris, MB, and the diverse collections in its museums.

Any visit to southwestern Manitoba should include a visit to the three distinctively unique museums in Souris, Manitoba. HILLCREST MUSEUM, originally constructed as a unique estate for one of the community's founding families, sits as a castle on the west banks of the Souris River, and has been a popular stop for visitors since 1967. The museum allows visitors the opportunity to re-visit some of S

ouris' landmark moments and celebrate the community builders responsible for our growth. In addition, the museum is home to one of the world's most eclectic displays of butterflies from around the world. Other annexes on the property celebrate the history of the Souris fire department as well as the agricultural heritage of our community. THE PLUM, a Church Heritage Museum, is recognized as Souris' oldest surviving public building, originally constructed in 1883. The museum features a number of displays with both a community and religious focus, as well as a full service tea room during the summer season. THE SOURIS RAILWAY MUSEUM celebrates the legacy of the railroad in Souris and the families whose livelihoods were connected to that industry. Included in the exhibits are some unique "hands on" displays and activities that transport you into the era of iron horses that once were the lifeline of the prairies.

The Hillcrest Museum needs your super sleuth skills!

We’re trying to track down the location and owner of this brick home, marked 67 above the door. We’ve been told it may have once stood where the Souris Library is today… but we need a few sharp memories to help confirm it.

If you recognize this house, the street, or have stories connected to it, we would love to hear from you.
Every detail helps, even the tiny ones you didn’t realize you remembered.
