Rubbertire Art by Jennifer Robitaille My Story: The Art of Quiet Observation
For as long as I can remember, I have moved through the world as an observer.

As an introvert, my most profound experiences don't happen in the noise of a crowd, but in the stillness of a solitary moment.

Completed this piece after much deliberation on how I should complete the background-very happy with the outcome-titled, Sandhill Cranes arriving at Kawartha Lake, 20”x24” acrylic.

Just experienced a major learning moment when painting my latest series -Sam Steele Lone Patrol. I always secretly knew that I was intimidated to use bolder colors but when I switched from pastel colors to bold colors in my sky … my mountains just popped! Sitting here enjoying my eureka moment.

I have an opportunity to paint this incredible photo reference by Kelly Magowan. The problem is I cannot decide if I should use a long horizontal canvas (30"x15") or a square canvas (23.6"x31.5") to paint this scene. What is your preference?

Following the Scent

In the vastness of the wild, there is a profound beauty in singular focus. This piece explores the quiet, determined journey of a lone bear moving through an empty landscape.

I chose a wide, minimalist composition to emphasize the silence that surrounds us when we are truly alone with our purpose. For me, this isn't just a painting of a bear; it’s a study in the peace found in isolation.

This is still available at Capital Art fair Gallery, 71 Sparks Street, Ottawa, ON acrylic, 30"x12" $1500 CAD

Even in the most public spaces, I find myself drawn to the architecture of silence.

This is my interpretation of the iconic spider sculpture at the National Gallery of Canada. By isolating its spindly, skeletal form against the morning light, it becomes a portrait of quiet strength. For me, it isn’t just a sculpture; it’s a study in standing alone amidst the vastness.

This is still available at Capital Art Fair Gallery, 71 Sparks Street, Ottawa, ON acrylic, 8x10", $280 CAD

n my search for the "singular," I am often drawn to the sky. These eagles represent a shared solitude—a moment of quiet focus high above the noise of the world.

My approach is to strip away the landscape until only the essential truth remains. Here, the vastness of the stars provides the silence, and the eagles provide the story.

“The artist must live alone, and his private life must be unknown.” — Edgar Degas

In a world full of noise, I am drawn to the quiet. My work is an exploration of the 'power of one'—finding the secret dignity in a single subject standing alone. For me, isolation isn't a lack of company; it's a sanctuary for observation.

This painting is currently available at Capital Art Fair Gallery, 71 Sparks Street Ottawa ON. 30"x48" acrylic, $1500 CAD
