People often ask why there is a dinosaur biting a baby. The image appears violent at first glance, even absurd, but it is not meant to resolve comfortably. It holds two temporal forces in tension.

On one level, it speaks to the stubborn emergence of life. The baby, soft and unfinished, stands in for the first growth of spring, those tender shoots that arrive before the world is ready for them. The dinosaur, an anachronistic predator, embodies winter’s lingering bite, the cold that refuses to release its hold, the past season still pressing into the present. Growth does not wait for safety. It appears precisely under pressure.

On another level, the scene folds time inward. The dinosaur is not only winter but history itself, ancient, immense, and unrelenting. The baby is the present moment, new, vulnerable, and unaware of the weight bearing down upon it. Their entanglement forms a living loop, an ouroboros of becoming and undoing. What is new is always already being shaped, constrained, and partially consumed by what came before.

The installation as a whole operates as a cycle rather than a narrative. It resists resolution. Life emerges, is pressed upon, transforms, and emerges again. The figures do not represent a single event but a condition, the constant negotiation between renewal and inheritance. In this space, growth is not separate from pressure. It is produced by it.

To stand within the work is to recognize that nothing arrives cleanly. Every beginning carries teeth marks.
