Meet Andrew Rookley — juror for the Representational category of the SCA Elected Members Exhibition.

Born and raised in Niagara Falls, Andrew — affectionately known as Rook — is a passionate collector and innovator whose journey from classroom teacher to art collector has been nothing short of inspiring. Extensive travel, a love of research, and a deep appreciation for Canadian history set him on the course toward collecting Canadian art.

Andrew earned his B.A. and B.Ed. from Queen’s University at Kingston, then taught in Toronto elementary schools for fourteen years before pursuing his passion for data-informed innovation — work that eventually led him back to Niagara and into the world of Canadian fine art collecting. Today, his personal collection spans over 1,400 pieces, and he’s known throughout the region as a generous guide to thoughtful, well-informed art collecting.

Meet Renata Kerr, SCA, AFCA — juror for the Contemporary category of the SCA Elected Members Exhibition.

After graduating from the Ontario College of Art and Design (OCAD) in the 1980s, Renata enjoyed a successful career as a graphic designer in Canada and Europe for over 25 years, specializing in corporate design. She credits that career with instilling the solid fundamentals and design principles she now draws on to create powerful, personal abstract works.

An award-winning artist, Renata has conducted workshops on the intuitive process of abstract painting, written several articles on the artistic process, and been a featured presenter at the annual OASIS Symposium in Kelowna, BC. She has also served as a mentor and coach to a number of artists in her community.

Meet Mel Williamson — juror for the Representational category of the SCA Elected Members Exhibition.

Working in oil paint with a bold, intuitive process, Mel reveals her figures and scenes through light and gesture, marked by her signature bravura brushwork. Using large brushes and no preliminary drawing, she allows her subjects to emerge from the canvas with bold immediacy, retaining a sense of mystery — elevating the everyday, unguarded moments of our lives into quietly powerful pieces of art.

Mel returned to painting after a career in design, winning “Best Work on Canvas” in her first juried show at the Sidney Fine Art Show in 2014. Further awards and success encouraged her to pursue oil painting full-time from her studio on Salt Spring Island.

Gestures and light fascinate her: people at work, unaware of being observed; flat, hazy daylight; the posture of animals; even the fluorescence of hardware stores. She trusts the paint to lead the way, working with no drawing or outline, letting her subjects emerge from the canvas like sculptures from a block of stone — the background only partially releasing them, creating tension and animation throughout her work.

Meet Grace Jackson — juror for the Contemporary category of the SCA Elected Membership Exhibition.

Grace is an Art Gallery Manager at Rookleys Canadian Art in Fort Erie, Ontario. She has worked extensively in the Canadian art world, with experience in gallery management, exhibition development, art consultation, marketing, and public programming. She has curated exhibitions with public galleries and independent organizations across Ontario. In her current role, Grace oversees gallery operations and exhibitions, works closely with artists and collectors, and develops public programming and educational initiatives. She has also contributed to major art events and partnerships, including Art Toronto and exhibitions focused on Canadian art.

Meet Laura Beaton — juror for the Contemporary category of the SCA Elected Membership Exhibition.

Laura is an award-winning, internationally recognized visual artist whose practice bridges Eastern and Western traditions. Her two-dimensional works fuse Chinese Brush Painting and Sumi-e — rice and washi papers — with contemporary Western mixed-media acrylic abstraction, creating a thoughtful dialogue between cultures, materials, and visual language.

Her work is held in private and permanent collections around the world, including Africa, China, Mexico, France, and throughout the USA and Canada. Laura has served as Former President and Director of the North America Branch of the International Chinese Calligraphy and Ink Painting Society (ICCPS NA), and is currently represented by Donna Child Fine Art Gallery in Toronto and Gallery on the Pond on Fogo Island, NL.

Among her many honours: First Place (The Ruth Yamada Award) from the Sumi-e Artists of Canada (2024), multiple Awards of Excellence from the ICCPS in Tokyo, Japan, and the 2017 Marty Award for Established Visual Fine Artist from the Mississauga Arts Council. Laura is also a sought-after speaker who consults with artists on the business of art and best art practices.

Meet James Postill — juror for the Representational category of the SCA Elected Members Exhibition.

James is a professional artist based in Vernon, BC, who has worked across a wide array of mediums — acrylics, airbrush, oil, soft pastels, ink, pencil, charcoal, gouache, watercolour, silverpoint, and fresco — and now works primarily in oils.

He earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Victoria in 1993, and after a seventeen-year career in picture framing, began his journey as a full-time professional artist in 2010. In 2022, James earned his signature status with the Federation of Canadian Artists, and in 2024 became an elected member of the Society of Canadian Artists. He has been represented by Kurbatoff Gallery in Vancouver since 2021, and his award-winning work can be found in collections around the world.

Meet Jenna Shamoon — juror for the Contemporary category of the SCA Elected Membership Exhibition.

Jenna is a Senior Art Consultant based in Hamilton, Ontario. Born and raised in Hamilton, she completed her undergraduate degree at McMaster University with a Combined Honours in Art History and English, followed by an MA in Art History from York University. Jenna has worked as an independent curator, creating exhibitions in Hamilton and Toronto, and has held roles at public galleries including Oakville Galleries and the Art Gallery of Hamilton, alongside experience in fine art appraisal. She has served as an Art Consultant with Whistler Contemporary Gallery since 2020.

Meet Bonnie Steinberg, SCA-LIFE, CSPC,TWS IWS — juror for the Representational category of the SCA Elected Membership Exhibition.

Born in Toronto, Bonnie is a practicing artist and a popular art teacher, working primarily in transparent watercolour. She is a guest artist and instructor for groups across Canada, the US, and Europe, with her teaching placing special emphasis on architectural elements within urban and rural landscapes. Bonnie currently teaches watercolour workshops and ongoing classes both in person and via Zoom, and returns to Le Monastère, France this summer for a teaching trip, following a similar visit in 2024.

Bonnie’s passion for colour and light comes through in her bold, instantly recognizable brushwork. She holds an Honours Bachelor of Fine Arts from York University, and is an elected member of the Canadian Society of Painters in Watercolour, the Society of Canadian Artists, and the International Watercolour Society, as well as a signature and platinum member of the Toronto Watercolour Society.

Most recently, her painting “Waiting for Spring” was selected by the CSPWC for inclusion in the Royal Project gift — a milestone marking the 100th anniversary of the CSPWC that will place 100 exceptional Canadian watercolours in the Royal Collection Trust of King Charles III at Windsor Castle

Meet Kathy Hildebrandt, ASA, SCA-Hon, PAC, AFCA, ISAP, PSA, IAPS/MC — juror for the Representational category of the SCA Elected Membership Exhibition.



Kathy is an international award-winning artist and instructor specializing in contemporary realism. Though primarily a pastellist, she also works in acrylic, watercolour, and oil.



Her honours include top awards in the Annual Pastel 100 and the International Association of Pastel Societies (IAPS) exhibition. Her work has been published in the Pastel Journal and the “Strokes of Genius” book series, and exhibited across Canada and at galleries including the Vose Gallery in Boston and the National Arts Club in New York City. She was also invited to the 2nd Biennial International Pastel Exhibition in Suzhou, China, where her work now sits in the permanent collection of the Pastel Museum of Art.



A signature member of numerous national and international societies, Kathy was named an Eminent Pastelist of Canada — the highest level of recognition in the pastel medium — and has served as Past President of both Pastel Artists.CA and the Society of Canadian Artists.
