The Gibbons Museum will be open 9 am - 4 pm (closed for lunch from 12:00-1:00) from June 7 to August 18, 2023. The Gibbons Museum is run by the Town of Gibbons and the Sturgeon River Historical Society, whose members dedicate hundreds of volunteer hours each year in maintaining the grounds and preserving the local pioneer history. Our museum consists of a number of local historic buildings, that have been moved to their current location and preserved for future generations to enjoy!

The first Thursday of every month is game night, starting March 5! Come by and try a historical card game or enjoy one of our historically themed board games. This program is free and will take place in the Post Office Cafe, the new side of the historic McLean Bros. general store. If there is a game you particularly would like to play, feel free to bring it and be ready to teach the group! Recommended ages 12+.

The Museum is hosting a free games night! Open to everyone 12+, the night will feature historically themed games like Catan and Ticket to Ride as well as historic games that have been played for more than 100 years! Join in on the fun November 27 from 7:00-9:00. There will be snacks available by donation to the Sturgeon River Historical Society, who work hard to preserve our Town's history and make events like this happen. We can't stop thinking about our Murder Mystery Event! What an exciting new thing for our Museum and what incredible community involvement! Thank you to everyone who came and participated, we were blown away by the quality of engagement and the costumes that helped make the evening really feel like 1902. Thank you to all our amazing volunteers and actors, this could not have happened without you. We'd also like to highlight the Gibbons' Library board for all their support, and, of course, the wonderful Sturgeon River Historical Society!

There is still space for the MURDER AT THE GIBBONS MUSEUM interactive mystery event! It is going to be a fantastic night of good food, thrilling mystery, clue finding and riddle solving! Don't miss it!

Today is national Truth and Reconciliation day. Today we remember the recent history of Residential Schools and the lasting damaging impact those institutions had on Indigenous communities. The last residential school in Alberta did not close until 1990, and at that one institution, dozens of children never made it back home while thousands others faced pain and isolation. Today is about hearing and telling the truth about what happened, remembering those children who were deprived of their culture, homes and lives, and honouring those who survived and work for healing every day. Today is a day to be intentional about thinking and planning reconciliation so that we can all live it out every day.

Do you love interactive games? Are you a mystery fanatic? Do you enjoy dressing up? Or maybe you're just interested in seeing the museum after dark? If any of these sound true, have we got the event for you! The Gibbons Museum is hosting a murder mystery night! The evening will be full of twists and turns, investigating, chatting, and exploring. A meal will be served as you discuss all the sordid details and if the fright gives you the shivers you can warm up by the campfire. The game has been completely designed by our staff and is inspired by the history of Gibbons! If you are interested in participating in this completely original experience, tickets are 25 dollars and registration forms can be found at the museum or you can email [email protected] to sign up.

The Sturgeon River Historical Society has set up some beautiful new Fall decor at the museum! This is just a sneak peak, come take a stroll by to see the beautiful Autumn window display in our 101 year old McLean Bros. General Store.
The store is still open selling candies, ice cream, and more until Thanksgiving weekend!
