On 12th -14th March, 2025 ; Department of Culture and Dzongkha Development( DCDD) in collaboration with Queen Mary University London and the University of Cambridge over the three days, with various participants ( Museum professional, Conservators ,and heritage experts ) engaged in insightful discussions, hands-on sessions, and collaborative learning opportunities, covering topics such as Evolution of Archival imaging from Microfilm to High-Resolution Digital imaging , Scientific Techniques like XRF , FORS & UV Fluorescence for material Analysis Hands-on Training with Digital Microscopes , UB Lamps & Photography Equipment ,and Standardization for quality control with FADGI & Metamofos standard .

Through this workshop, we aim to foster a deeper understanding of innovations in conserving heritage, encouraging collaboration to safeguard our shared cultural legacy for future generations.

Looking to add a touch of authenticity from various culture to your visit at Museum? No worries, we offer a traditional dresses for hire and ensure your visit to be worthwhile.

๐Ÿ“Merak and Sakteng Dress:

For women is a beautiful layer of thick cotton dress and jacket ensemble . The red Bura dress is called Shingka tied with thick black woolen sheath pushed at the back of the dress known as the Meykhem. A Colourful tego compliments the maroon cotton dress followed by the traditional jacket called Todung . The ensemble is finally complete with the unique hat called Tsetpu Zham.

๐Ÿ“Layap Dress:

Layap women wear dresses made of the yak hair and sheep wool.
The women's dress, to use Pommaret's description,is 'a black skirt with brown vertical stripes,a black jacket,a distinctive conical bamboo hat perched on the top of the head and much silver jewellery,including spoons,hanging at the back'.

This hat is associated with fertility and the fact that women are normally the yak herders here(the same clothes are worn by the powerful local deity for the Yak,Am Chomo Nosey Gayem).This insures that the herds remain healthy.

And don't forget ,we have our own traditional gho and Kira on hire too.
