Good morning! I’m looking forward to a very busy weekend for the final days of our EOFY Aboriginal Art Sale, with special pricing on selected works throughout the gallery! It’s been great to meet local residents, and international visitors (from Germany and Dubai to name two!) who have been delighted with their special purchases.

I have a huge selection of paintings in my rear art rooms that are reduced by up to 50% off normal pricing on selected artworks. You can choose from hundreds of paintings – with my smaller paintings from $200, and larger paintings from $900. Eligible businesses may be able to claim an immediate 100% deduction on the instant asset write-off for this financial year. Consult with your independent tax advisor for your individual circumstances.

I am also really happy to share two photos of new pieces by Tony Sorby, who is one of my best-selling artists … and little wonder! Tony’s paintings represent the Kamilaroi Lands, Sacred Sites, the Journey Tracks and Campsites of the Kamilaroi people within the boundaries of Kamilaroi Country.

For thousands of years the Kamilaroi Tribe in north-western NSW lived as hunter gatherers and performed various ceremonies in the vast areas of the Kamilaroi Lands that stretches from the Upper Hunter Valley west to the Warrumbungle Mountains and North into south-west Queensland. At many of these ceremonial sites, trunks of trees were carved, comprising of symbolic motifs, intricate swirls, circles, and zigzags. These carvings were a warning that these sites were spiritually significant and sacred.

I am open from 11am–3pm Saturday and Sunday, or don't hesitate to call me (Roy) on 0433 112 878 if you would like to drop in after hours. I am always very happy to hear from you!

One of the many joys for me of collecting and displaying the work of our Aboriginal Artists is the way that they incorporate so much colour into their paintings. While the origins of the Aboriginal Art movement was often more focussed on the colours of the desert landscape, many artists also enjoy incorporating a variety of colours that represent wild flowers, grasses, seeds and the wide variety of flora that grows in abundance in their country.

Today I would like to share just a small selection of the many paintings I have for sale here at AMAGOA, that showcase the colourful palettes of four wonderful artists.

We are open daily from 11am-4pm, or don't hesitate to call me (Roy) on 0433 112 878 to confirm our daily opening hours if you are dropping in. I am always very happy to hear from you!

Among the many beautiful paintings we have for sale here at our beautiful new gallery at 259 Bluff Road, Sandringham, are paintings by Doreen Dickson Nakamarra. Doreen is a Warlpiri woman from the Willowra Community, which is approximately 250km north west of Alice Springs. Doreen comes from a family who is well known for their art, including her sister, Janet Long Nakamarra, whose work we are proud to have as our current exhibition.

Born in 1956 on her families traditional homelands, Doreen grew up completely immersed in her culture and traditions. Her skin name is Nakamarra and the Nakamarra women are well known artists and have contributed greatly to the Australian Aboriginal art movement in the Central and Western Desert regions of Australia.

Due to popular demand (and lots of people having been away for Easter), we have extended our 20% off* sale until the end of April! You can own a piece, starting from under $200 for smaller paintings and up to $999 with many medium sized artworks, plus we can also show you a stunning range in our corporate collection for larger walls.

As I was looking through the incredible selection of paintings we have available for sale at AMAGOA, I also found this amazing old photograph someone had the good sense to take when I caught up with one of the true greats of the Australian Aboriginal Art Movement.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are respectfully advised that in the comments accompanying this post, one of our comments in the comments section contains the name and photograph of someone who has passed away.

Kathleen's technique consisted of layering very fine dots of thin acrylic paint onto the canvas, evoking the Aboriginal custom of ceremonial body painting, to carefully construct abstract landscapes that reveal a remarkable depth when viewed up close. The dots are used to represent, among other things, flowers and spinifex, or animated clouds of sand, hail or even bush seeds. Meanwhile, various shapes and colours are used to depict geographical features such as sand-hills, watercourses and rockholes. Her imagery has been described as "simultaneously macro- and microcosmic".

The majority of Petyarre's paintings detail the journeys of her Dreaming Ancestor, Arnkerrth, the Old Woman Mountain Devil, and are indicative of traditional land navigation skills. She adopted an aerial view typical of her region's artworks to reconstruct memorised landscapes and express her Dreamings as "a barely tangible, shadowy palimpsest, overwritten, as it were, by the surface colours and movement". She described her paintings as "like looking down on my country during the hot time, when the country changes colour … I love to make the painting like it’s moving, travelling, but it’s still our body painting, still our ceremony.”

Kathleen's paintings are also held in the Royal Collection (London); Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; Musée des Confluences, Lyon, France; AAMU Museum voor hedendaagse Aboriginal kunst (Museum for Contemporary Aboriginal Art), Utrecht, The Netherlands; National Gallery of Australia, Canberra, Australia; Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory, Darwin, Australia; the Kluge-Ruhe Aboriginal Art Collection, University of Virginia, USA; the Essl Collection, Vienna, Austria; the Holmes à Court Collection, Perth; and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York.

My name is Roy Allan, and I first began collecting Aboriginal Art nearly 30 years ago. Over the years, I have greatly enjoyed meeting and spending time with some of the famous artists of the Australian Aboriginal Art Movement and learning as much as possible about the stories behind their incredible paintings. I launched AMAGOA (Aboriginal and Modern Art Gallery of Australia) many years ago now in South Yarra, and I am delighted to have finally found a permanent home for a selection of pieces from my personal collection, and the hundreds of paintings we have available for sale at AMAGOA.

When I first viewed the retail showroom at 259 Bluff Road, I instantly knew that I had finally found my perfect gallery space! We specialise in paintings from the Central and Western Desert, and the Utopia Aboriginal Lands of the Eastern Desert. I look forward to welcoming you to AMAGOA, and sharing the mesmerising beauty of the colours, the landscape, and the stories.

You can call me on 0433 112 878 to confirm our daily opening hours if you are planning on dropping in. I am always happy to hear from you! You can also visit my website www.amagoa.com
