Congratulations to Monica Fernandez for her second well-deserved sell-out show in two years at Context Miami! Her works sold out in two minutes on opening night.

Her multi-layered paintings evoke memories and hidden emotions from our subconscious. She transports us to the fragility and innocence of childhood and then moves us onwards to the power of an empowered woman in her full strength.

Congratulations to Monica Fernandez for her second well-deserved sell-out show in two years at Context Miami! Her works sold out in two minutes on opening night.

We can't wait to see how Monica's art evolves in the next few years.

It was the Rainbow gave thee birth,
And left thee all her lovely hues;
And, as her mother’s name was Tears,
So runs it in my blood to choose
For haunts the lonely pools, and keep
In company with trees that weep.
-W. H. Davies, ‘The Kingfisher’.

I am sure many of you will have tired feet during Art Week Miami! If not, then perhaps you haven't been to enough fairs yet. Make sure that Context Art Fair, booth A5 is highlighted on your thousand steps. Let us know if you need any tickets to come see us.

There is so much personality in this detailed anthropomorphic shoe carved from a single piece of camphor wood by Japanese artist Yuta Nushiura. We could not resist.

We are loving sharing the booth with Decorazon Gallery and their artists. We just had to share this work by Michele Mikesell.

"Creating individuals is what I find most interesting in the studio. It is my hope that these portraits will be familiar characters to the viewer, subjects we recognize and identify with. My work consistently travels along a general vein of the universal human experience.

These realistic, stylized faces placed within loosely interpreted animal shapes and costumes narrate a continued thesis of dichotomy and metaphor - comparing and contrasting human ideas with animal instinct. Irony, contradiction, humor and tragedy, have been continued themes in my work and are illustrated not only within the image, but within the actual paint and surface of the painting."

- Michele Mikesell

Alberto Sanchez’s photographs truly capture the spirit of a city. For him, building upon the two dimensionality of his own photographs with layers and layers of ink and spray and graphite gives voice to our other senses.

For example how do you capture the smell of a city. In this new work titled Adagio the tangibility of the scent of rain comes alive, the blur of the city lights, the reflected cast of light through the lingering evaporation of a sudden shower. It’s The real New York, encased by a photograph, but brought to life by the artist…
