Hi there, I'm Donna and I am the person behind Art by the Beach Gallery. I absolutely love creating and it keeps me from being an absolute nutcase and ensures I'm a tolerable human being when I'm out in public and interacting with other humans.
I'm primarily a painter in acrylics, watercolour, pastels and oils; but I also love jewellery making (silversmithing is my jam), sewing, printmaking, sculpting and have just rediscovered pottery (which is addictive).
I can't remember a time when I haven't created. I can remember learning to sew on my Grandmother's treadle sewing machine when I was about 4yrs old and started making my own clothes from a very young age. Being creative kept my stress levels kinda manageable during my working life, particularly during COVID (a common story) and I used my training in Art Therapy to my advantage for both myself and others.
I grew up surrounded by the bush in Outback Central QLD and have always had an affinity with the quiet and am best when I'm alone in natural surrounds. Living near the beach with bush behind me gives me the best of both worlds and I draw on this in my creativity. A natural introvert, this allows me to live my best life. I love to express how I feel in my work, my whimsy, my rediculousness, my seriousness, my experiences, my history, my future.
