Excited that this book ‘Cross-cultural Design for Healthy Ageing’ which has been many years in the making, is finally publishing on Dec 28. I’ve written a chapter on cross-cultural empathy in complex design challenges with a focus in health. The framework can be used in intercultural collaborations, cross-cultural student teams and design in complex or global challenges.

In what has been a challenging year, where we have seen climate change, a global pandemic, health and mental health challenges, racism and inequities, I hope this will be useful, in developing better understanding in collaboration, deeper listening to move toward a brighter future for all. Considerations for designing interactions: Why we find imperfect robots more likeable

Researchers have examined how people react to robots that exhibit faulty behavior compared to perfectly performing robots. The results show that the participants took a significantly stronger liking to the faulty robot than the robot that interacted flawlessly.
