Thank you to Jane and Donna who organised a morning tea at the Cedars at Hahndorf for our Zonta Club of Mt Barker members.

The Cedars is the stunning historic estate of Australian landscape painter Sir Hans Heysen (1877 - 1968) and his family including hisvdaughter Nora Heysen's (1911 - 2003) original art studios and the stunning Heysen home with over 200 original artworks. Walk the beautiful original Artist's Garden and take the Artist's Walk over the wider 160 acre property. Soak up the atmosphere at the Cedars' Kitchen cafe overlooking the garden while enjoying homemade sweet and savoury treats and Heysen tea and coffee. Guided tours 11am and 2pm daily.

Leading up to Anzac Day.

Shadows to Spotlight" is a newly highlighted initiative by Women Veterans Australia (WVA) designed to elevate the visibility, recognition, and support for women who have served in the Australian Defence Force (ADF).

Here are the key details about the program and its context:

Goal of the Initiative:
The program addresses that women veteransโ€™ stories and needs have often been overlooked. It aims to ensure they are properly recognised and supported long after their service ends.

Digital Hub & Support:
WVA is creating a national digital hub, informed by direct feedback from women veterans, to provide easier access to resources, connection, and support services.

Focus on Lived Experience:
The initiative incorporates insights from the Royal Commission into Defence and Veteran Su***de, specifically targeting the unique challenges faced by women, including balancing caregiving, employment, and regional isolation.

Context of Need:
The program comes at a time when there is increased focus on the "invisible wounds" of service and the need for better support for women leaving the military.

Related Initiatives for ADF Women:

Mentoring:
Mentoring programs like the "Women in Security Mentoring Program" are also in place for 2025โ€“2026 to help women in the defence industry connect and grow their skills.

Career Transition:
Programs designed for ADF spouses and women in the defence industry are also active to aid in career development and leadership.

Last weekend the Zonta Club of Mt Barker held a Garage Sale on Saturday and Sunday.

Members of the public came along and purchased many items and also donated gear for us to sell which was amazing support.

We still have plenty of articles to sell so will have another Garage Sale this Saturday. Please see flyer for more information.

Money raised goes to the many projects we support for women and girls such as Birthing Kits and Breast Care Cushions.

Come along to our Zonta Club of Mt Barker Garage Sale tomorrow.
