I want to thank this beautiful Wāhine for purchasing my Rāranga art piece “The Fern” To Māori the Fern symbolises, strength endurance, and resistance. The silver Fern, also Known as ponga in te reo, has been a symbol of NZ’s national Identity since the 1880's. I hope you enjoy this piece & it gives you the following representation of its meaning to you & your family in your home. Thank you for your support Mayron. ❤️

Niho Taniwha:

Niho Taniwha translates to taniwha teeth. The triangle shape of the niho taniwha represents strength and stability. The repetitive pattern symbolises whakapapa, stories, histories and myths passed down over time.

Kaokao:

Means protection. It looks like a repetitive 'M' shape which is said to represent the rib cage and arms of warriors (think of the Haka stance). The kaokao pattern is usually on tukutuku panels in the four corners of a whare representing the protection of all.
