Honoured to be finalist in the Portia Geach Memorial Award 2026.

When I Take my Sugars to Tea, celebrates our legendary Rose Chong hosting her kindred spirits, The Huxleys at a tea party for three. When I asked Rose to sit for me she said, “Can I wear a pink Gorilla suit? I feel more myself”

The Huxleys wear their own inventions, Tea for Liberace”, to a party that everyone wants to join.

I watched from behind a red velvet curtain, fully dressed a in skeleton suit, when lo and behold, a female larrikin carnivalesque gave birth at Luna Park in a sexy Dance Palace in St Kilda. Living legend, Maude Davey erupted onto stage singing a song about the world as a crazy carnival and you couldn’t hold me back. I had to paint her, in the dark, masked and elated. And I thought Dolly Parton was cool.

I’ve been busy making costumes for my Masters film MA: The Golden Reign and sharing with you a little apocalyptic chaos as it comes together.

This is the Pale Horse 🐎 — one of four Wilder Beasts who will suzuki stomp and trance prance across a bridge in the burbs turning death into a new born carnival. 🎡

The costumes are inspired by Ned Kelly’s dirty boots and Rei Kawakubo’s Comme des Garçons Lamentation collection where I read her show notes.

On this cold Sunday I release to you another n**e of Chong to warm your innards and get you up and running and off the phone. Whipped up in two hours a few moons ago to a peeping audience beyond the breasted Fitzroy glass theatre that indeed the glorious sitter doth own. Hannah (above) has chaperoned every one of my “See it While You Live Cause You’ll be Dead for a Long Time - mighty Tableau Vivant window theatre projects” I have imagined over the past two decades. So every hour I painted her paints homage to 10 years of wise suggestions and generous encouragement when vision fears to become greater than possibility.

Warning: N**es of Chong will be reinventing itself as a ‘reclaiming of our bits and bobs through the brush’ in a new iteration of live carnal street theatre, of naked ‘local legends’. Keep your pants on for now while you close your eyes and imagine.

for the durational portrait project live in a shop window in Fitzroy was the extraordinary high style local chic Eryca Green (pictured) oil on panel.

What is an Australian Carnivale? Does it exist, do we need one, are you a part of it? It’s my second year back at uni, diving deep into an MFA practice-led research project at VCA (where I graduated as a 21 year old fresh from country Victoria. Today I remembered this painting, Us, Brother Nature. It looks back at me, behind a headdress of horse spirit and Bendigo spring flowers, cloaked in a blanket donated to the family after the house burnt down. My big brother and I as one! One eye. Is this our Carni? Let’s see - once I open the other eye to join forces I’ll let you know. In the meantime I learn to write…..✍🏼 while the music plays. Life is a ………ole chum. 🎶 🐎 🤡 ☠️ 🎶

Thrilled to be LAUNCHING a limited edition of one of my most iconic portraits, in collaboration with

Rama-Jaara, The Royal Shepherdess (Quiet Wild series, 2012)

The Quiet Wild series embodies the carnivalesque, drawing on personal places and stories to create archetypal characters that subvert traditional identities and Australian folk narratives. This staged photograph depicts a young, self-possessed woman reminiscent of the Infanta Margarita from Velasquez’s Las Meninas. She playfully mimics a ‘not so’ royal shepherdess, with her hairstyle and headdress resembling a ram’s head, inspiring the title’s ‘Rama’. (Also considered Supreme Being in Hindu-centric traditions). The hand painted backdrop is Dja Dja Wurrung, Long Gully Bendigo, near our family property, a few years after the 2009 Black Saturday bushfires burnt the house to the ground. The defiant figure, a symbol of resilience, a ‘phoenix rising’. The small Chinese Joss paper dog, her companion to the next incarnation.
