Grounded - Mezzanine Showcase Exhibition

Working at the intersection of healing, mindfulness, and cultural memory, Qiu reflects on her Chinese ancestry and her life in Australia.

Using rice, natural materials like grass and soil, and oracle bone script (the earliest form of Chinese writing), Qiu's intimate, wearable pieces explore the quiet power of land, how it shapes the cultures that grow upon it and how it shapes us.

On now in the mezzanine showcase at Hamilton Gallery.

Such a joy to run Rice Painting workshops for the kids at Hamilton. Kids often remind me of the carefree spirit.

This special paint is 100% Kid safe and made of rice and food powder. They can eat it if they're hungry in the middle of the workshop. But no, save it for creativity 😄😄

Thanks so much for organising the workshops during Children Sensorium exhibition and for fostering a safe and welcoming space for the kids to create freely 🎨

If you've missed the recent Rice Clay making workshop at , we are running another one on Sat 13 September as part of the Sensitive Being exhibition.

This workshop is tailored to explore your senses of touch and smell through working with cooked rice. We'll get messy and creative. Lots of people said that they would've never expected how much fun they had making their own rice clay.

It has always been a meditative journey working on Hiromi Hotel as part of Children Sensorium exhibition since 2022. This show has been to Design Hub Gallery (2022), Castlemaine Art Museum (2024), Hamilton Gallery (2025), and we are touring to 2 more galleries in Australia this year! 🤩🤩 Stay tuned.

In less than one week, Contemporary Wearables ’25 Biennial Jewellery Award and Exhibition will be open at Toowoomba Regional Art Gallery ✌✌

If you have a chance to be there, enjoy all the beautiful work by different jewellery artists as well as my grass clay work 🌱🌱

My jewellery work tells the story of my heritage and hometown through the use of rice and grass.

Congrats to all the jewellery artists being selected 💖. My absolute pleasure to exhibit alongside you all.

The judge for this year’s Award is renowned jeweller and metalsmith and 2024 JamFactory ICON Julie Blyfield. Awards and acquisitions will be announced at the Opening night on Friday 29 August at 5.30pm.

Gratitude and Gifting workshop as a celebration at the end of the program. By coincidence, most people made wearable jewellery pieces and we had a surprise fashion parade at the end. Lots of laughter on the night 🥰🥰

Yesterday was the last session of our Creative Connections wellbeing program, and as we sat chatting away, we made each other a gift as a gesture of thank you. It was a wonderful experience to create without boundaries and to share with others. Thank you to all those that came to our various events; we hope we made your day better, helped you with ideas for your wellbeing and most of all, hope you had lots of fun on the journey.

Today’s International Women’s Day. Being a migrant in Australia, I appreciate all the help and support from the community since I arrived in Melbourne 8 years ago. Our Sentimental Rice Jewellery Melbourne Design Week will be fundraising for . And we want to be part of the change for women’s mental wellbeing and inner confidence.

SisterWorks is a not-for-profit social enterprise, based in Melbourne. Through work and entrepreneurship, their mission is to support women who are refugees, asylum seekers or migrants to improve their confidence, mental wellbeing and sense of belonging.

We’re so excited to annonce that the Sentimental Rice Jewellery workshop is part of Melbourne Design Week 2021, Initiative of the Victorian Government in collaboration with the NGV.

During COVID-19, I explored jewellery design as a way of self-discovery and self-healing. In the workshop, I invite you to reflect on your meaningful memories and feelings and create wearable pieces with rice fabric.

We’ll be running 2 rice jewellery workshops at and all ticket profits will go to to empower women.
