The Kandos - Rylstone Rail Heritage Precinct comprises the Rylstone, Kandos and Clandulla Railway Stations and the connecting 7km of rail between the two townships. Initially formed through a collaboration with Lithgow State Mine Railway in 2016, the precinct is comprises the Kandos Station and the Rylstone Station and yard. In March of 2021 Kandos Museum made a submission to Transport for NSW for
the repurposing of the Rylstone Station and yard to tourism activities with a plan to refurbish both the station and the goods shed. The proposed repurposing would see the station returned to use as a passenger facility incorporating a visitor centre and museum display with a focus on the history of the Gwabegar Line. The proposed repurposing of the goods shed would see it transformed into a commercial standard wood joinery offering demonstrations and workshops with a focus on woodworking in railways as part of an immersive visitor experience. The Joinery would also support the efforts of the wider rail heritage community by preserving the knowledge, skills and experience of railway woodwork.
