1917 Tangye oil engine getting a run. This engine has a tag on it from the ‘New South Wales Railways Water Supply Branch’ and was used to pump water for the overhead water tanks supplying steam trains. The water pump which was driven by these engines is bigger than the engine itself and would have made an impressive unit when coupled to the pump. This engine was returned to the railways workshops at Everlie in Sydney at the end of its service and completely refurbished with a new cylinder, piston, bearings which were all new parts as they are not stamped with the engine serial number as all Tangye parts usually are. After being rebuilt it was never returned to service as it was old technology by then and passed into preservation.

Paid a visit to a fellow engine man’s house today to see a very rare engine get one of its first long runs. This is a Robinson HR Oblique size Z gas engine which is 1 HP. This engine was discovered in Western Australia and unfortunately the scrappies had taken the crankshaft, flywheel and main bearing caps. Brought back to the eastern side of Australia, The engine owner made a new crank, governor parts, bored the engine and cast a new oversized piston, 3D printed a flywheel pattern which was then cast and machined. First class work which has brought another very rare engine back for us to enjoy. This size Robinson is one of only 3 known to remain in the world.
