ARTIST IN RESIDENCE
Calligrapher Narelle Jones

Thursday 27 February – Saturday 22 March 2025
at The Old Barn Gallery18 Beltana Rd Pialligo ACT

The theme for the residency is “Imagination is greater than detail.” This will be my second “artist in residence” at the Old Barn Gallery, a great location to explore new ideas.

This year I will be starting with formal calligraphic manuscripts and moving towards more contemporary styles some of which I will turn into 3D objects.
I will also be working on a new book containing work done during my time at the gallery.

The walls of the Old Barn will be full of work I have completed during the past year. Many pieces will be for sale.

The gallery will be open from 10.00 am to 4.00 pm Wednesdays to Sundays (during the above dates) so if you are passing please drop in for chat see what I am getting up to.

Yours in “splashing” ink around,

Narelle

‘In Harmony with Nature: The Breath of Autumn’

Autumn is the time of a great change in nature when we witness the explosion of colours of deciduous trees, farewell migrating birds, and collect all the hard work rewards from gardens and orchards. The ‘In Harmony with Nature: The Breath of Autumn’ exhibition is a tribute of the Magic of Artistry group to this magnificent time.

The Magic of Artistry group was formed in May 2022 by four artists: Irina Bastrakova, Elena Bozhko-Marshall, Galina Amelina and Yuri Amelin. Each of the group members has brought their own unique style of art including painting on canvas, photography, ceramics and semi-precious stones art.Exhibiting at The Old Barn Gallery April 27 – May 6. 10am – 4pm

‘Reflections on Nature – Bringing together a creative community’

The Old Barn Gallery, Pialligo, is delighted to host their third exhibition from Canberra’s NatureArt Lab.The ‘Reflections on Nature’ artist-in-residence project was launched on social media in May 2020 just as COVID struck and within a few months attracted a membership of around 600 people with thousands of contributions.
Led by Julia Landford, (founding director of NatureArt Lab) photographers, writers, artists, journalers, ecologists and naturalists joined forces and began to document the sights they were seeing all around them in ordinary, everyday moments. This remarkable collection of insightful connections with nature, will be on display alongside a portfolio of environmental and conservation organisations actively working in the Canberra region. The exhibition to be officially opened by Senator David Pocock, will also feature a series of talks by local environmentalists and workshops including nature journaling, nature writing, and children’s activities.

The exhibition runs from Thursday 2nd – Sunday 5th, and from Thursday 9th- Sunday 12th February and is open from 10 - 4 each day. Entry is free.

Bijoux – a Treasury of Small Art Works at the Old Barn Gallery

The Gumnuts Artists collective decided that this Christmas the best gift that can be given is a small artwork – some even small enough to go in the Christmas Stocking!

The artworks (either framed or matted) are of flora, fauna, landscapes and other subjects that have fired their artistic imaginations.

Together with these small gems will be an assortment of beautiful cards – perfect for unexpected birthdays, anniversaries, and even ‘just for no reason at all’.

We look forward to seeing you!
