The Two Tiny Coffins Found With King Tut ✨️

👑 Did You Know King Tut Had Two Daughters?

Although Tutankhamun died at just 18 or 19 years of age, he and Queen Ankhesenamun had two daughters.

🧑‍🍼Tragically, neither child survived infancy. Their tiny mummified remains were placed in beautifully crafted gilded coffins and buried alongside their father in his famous tomb in the Valley of the Kings.

The loss of Tutankhamun's daughters meant there was no direct heir to continue the royal line, helping bring an end to the family dynasty that had ruled Egypt during the Eighteenth Dynasty. 💫

The Ancient Egyptians believed that death was a new beginning. Death masks weren't designed to show a person's real appearance. Instead, they portrayed an idealised version of the deceased:
Youthful, healthy, beautiful, and perfect. ⭐️

Many believed this idealised face would become their own in the afterlife, called the Field of Reeds. The mask helped transform them so they could spend eternity free from illness, pain, and old age. 💫

Ancient Egypt’s Biggest Family Drama? 🌟❓️

🏺Hidden beneath Saqqara, the 4,400-year-old Tomb of Wahtye contains 55 carved statues of the priest, his family, and deities.

✨️Discovered sealed in 2018, the tomb is one of Egypt's most significant recent finds. Some Egyptologists believe clues within the tomb point to a family dispute... and even the possibility that Wahtye claimed the tomb as his own.‼️

🏺 What is your role at the Tomb of the Pharaohs Cairns?

🏺What brought you to Tomb of the pharaohs?

🌎 A fascination with all things Egyptian. When I was about 10, I was given a globe of the world, the following year I had a school project to describe the country in the world I would most like to visit - that was Egypt... of course.
🇪🇬 That simple request ignited dreams of travelling far and wide. Before too long I was climbing inside the Great Pyramid of Giza, travelling the Nile by felucca, visiting Karnak, Valley of the Kings & Abu Simbel.
Egypt is such a unique country, the landscape, the history & the culture, if you ever get the chance to visit - do it. Follow your dreams, I had no idea how I was going to get there, but I had a goal and I made it happen. ✨

🏺 Favourite artefact in the exhibition? And why?

👑 Nefertari's vulture headdress.
I'd love to try it on - just the once, but I'm not allowed to even touch it. Nefertari was quite the woman; she was educated and could read & write hieroglyphics- a huge achievement for a woman 3300 years ago.
💕 Her marriage to Ramses 2 was a love match prior to him becoming King. She gave him at least 4 sons and 2 daughters (we just won't mention he had a total of 8 principal wives and up to 200 other wives and concubines.)
Nefertari was the favourite wife, and her name meant "The one for whom the sun shines". To honour her, Ramses 2 built the temple Abu Simbel. Nefertari became a powerful woman with significant influence, taking part in state affairs, religious ceremonies, & diplomatic relations. At times ruling as regent to Ramses 2, Nefertari had her own throne & beautiful crown protected by the Nekhbet Vulture and the Uraeus cobra - that I still want to try on. 🤩

THE REVEAL: The Pharaoh who rose from the ranks to secure Egypt’s future is none other than Ramesses I!
Did you guess correctly? 🤔

He started as a humble military commander, but his leadership paved the way for the 19th Dynasty: the ✨️Golden Era✨️ of Ancient Egypt.
