🍄 A Few Magical Finds from Yesterday’s Recon Walk 🍄

Yesterday’s wander through the forest in preparation for this morning’s MycoSpotting Walk revealed some beautiful little treasures hiding amongst the leaf litter and fallen timber.

Moments like these are why I never tire of slowing down and exploring the forest floor. There is always something new to discover when we take the time to look closely.

I can’t wait to see what treasures reveal themselves on today’s walk! 🍄✨

It was such a pleasure to welcome Teeny Brumby - Mayor of Burnie, into the gallery today to add her fungi to the growing Mycelium Project 🍄✨

Community projects like this are built one small contribution at a time, and it means so much to have the support of local leaders who take the time to connect, create, and encourage these shared experiences.

A heartfelt thank you to Teeny for not only joining in, but for continuing to support community-led creative projects across our region. Your encouragement helps these ideas grow — just like mycelium beneath the forest floor, quietly connecting people together 🌿

We loved having you be part of the project today 💛

Pop into the Makers Gallery Burnie up until Friday 2.30pm after which it will be packed for transporting to Hobart for people in the South to come along and add their fungi at the Tasmanian Mushroom Festival on Sunday.

Draw, colour, get assistance!
All drawing capabilities and all ages WELC🍄ME.

Very exciting to see the communal artwork for The Mycelium Project coming together. Thank you to the many locals who have made their contribution so far. You have until Friday pm to make a mark.

🌧️🍄 MycoSpotting Walk Postponed 🍄🌧️

Due to the forecast heavy rains, tomorrow’s MycoSpotting Walk at Ferndene Reserve will unfortunately need to be postponed.

While I’m disappointed we won’t be wandering the forest together this Sunday, the silver lining is that this much-needed rain will hopefully bring even more fungi to life across the forest floor in the coming weeks ✨🍄🌿

Our new walk date will be:

📍 Sunday 31st May
🕙 10am – 12pm
📍 Ferndene Reserve, Penguin

If you were already booked, your ticket will transfer to the new date. And for anyone who had been thinking about coming along but couldn’t make this Sunday’s walk — this is your chance to join us if the new date suits 😊

Thank you so much for your understanding, and I’m looking forward to discovering even more tiny forest wonders together very soon. 🌿

THE MYCELIUM PROJECT IS LIVE! 🍄
A beautiful, community minded creation is now growing in Burnie and you’re invited to be part of it.

If you would like to contribute to something meaningful, visit Makers Gallery Burnie and add your own mushroom to this collaborative piece created by renowned Tasmanian artist Sue Holm. Each contribution helps the network expand, reflecting the way real mycelium connects and supports life beneath our feet. It is a simple act, yet it plays an important role in shaping the spirit of the Tasmanian Mushroom Festival.

The project will be on display in Burnie until Friday 22 May, before it travels south to become part of the 2026 Tasmanian Mushroom Festival in Hobart.
🕒 Gallery Hours Wed–Fri: 10am–3pm Sat: 9am–2pm 📍 Plaza Arcade, Burnie

You can also message us to email your fungi contribution if you prefer to take part from home.

We are deeply grateful for the community support that allows this artwork to grow, and for everyone who chooses to add their fungi to the network.

If you cannot make it to the gallery, you can add to the project at the Tasmanian Mushroom Festival Day on Sunday 24 May, 10am to 4pm at BrewLab. https://events.humanitix.com/copy-of-tasmanian-mushroom-festival-day
