Our Museum & Research Centre at 7 Arundel Road, Brighton is open each Friday from 10.30 am to 12.30 pm, and each Sunday from 1.30 to 3.30 pm. St John Ambulance has been a household name in SA for over 100 years – you can explore our rich history at the St John SA Museum & Research Centre in Brighton!

This is the Avilus Grille medical evacuation multicopter drone. The Bundeswehr (Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Germany) and Avilus have collaborated on the GRILLE rescue drone. With a 750 kg payload and 90 km/h speed, it will swiftly transport wounded soldiers from battlefields over 50 km to the nearest medical facility, enhancing their chances of survival. The project is considered a milestone in the development of airborne, unmanned capabilities, which will play a key role in medical evacuations (MedEvac) and logistics transport in the future.

Multicopter Drone Ambulances

This is the Avilus Grille medical evacuation multicopter drone, paired with a military truck carrying a protected patient transport shelter. The Bundeswehr (Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Germany) and Avilus have collaborated on the GRILLE rescue drone. The Avilus Grille Drone is an unmanned multicopter designed for the safe aerial evacuation of wounded personnel from combat zones, featuring a pod large enough to transport a patient lying down. The Protected Medical Shelter/Truck is a tactical vehicle equipped with a specialized ISO-standard container or shelter system marked with red crosses, used for field triage, patient stabilisation and coordination.

Vilos ‘Bill’ Pavlik CStJ (1930-2026)

St John Ambulance SA Historical Society members and friends gathered at State HQ to commemorate the life of Bill Pavlik. Bill passed away on 11 June 2026, at the age of 96. Bill will be sadly missed by many and remembered for his long support to the South Australian community through St John, his research on St John Ambulance medals and air ambulances, and in particular his work with the multicultural community. Bill was appointed a Serving Brother of the Order of St John on 18 December 1980. District Staff Officer Vilos Pavlik was awarded the National Medal for 15 years’ long service on 15 May 1986. He was promoted to Officer (Brother) of the Order of St John on 5 January 1990, and Commander on 16 January 1997.
